Was Jann Arden in town Saturday night? She sure was! Jann Arden was the surprise special musical performance at State of the Island, MacDonald Island Park’s annual black-tie gala Saturday night.

At the State of the Island gala it was announced that Shell Albian Sands is the title partner for the MacDonald Island Park expansion project. Shell Place, coming 2014, will include an Outdoor Performance Stadium, Shared Space & Conference Centre, and Tournament Centre, among other features.

Longtime community business leader and philanthropist John H. Wilson became the second inductee into the MacDonald Island Park Walk of Honour. This award is given out annually to an individual that has made an outstanding contribution to recreational, social and/or cultural life in the Wood Buffalo community.

The theme of the night was Thank U. A large mosaic was also unveiled at MacDonald Island featuring over 1,000 photos taken over the past year. Check it out the next time you are at our amazing local recreational facility.
