Did Halle Berry Actually Drink Half a Pint of Whiskey at Comic-Con? We Doubt It

Oscar-winning actress and Instagram star Halle Berry is all over celebrity news Friday due to footage of her purportedly chugging whiskey onstage at Comic-Con this week. Despite the media’s willingness to believe a group of people whose job is to pretend as they attempt to create buzz for a summer blockbuster, I and several of my colleagues questioned Berry’s attention-getting stunt.

Video went viral last week of Halle Berry allegedly chugging a half a pint of whiskey (about six shots) at San Diego Comic-Con. Berry and her Kingsman: The Golden Circle were promoting their upcoming film on a panel when Channing Tatum poured her the drink. The 50-year-old Oscar-winning actress then proceeded to stand up and drink the entire glass in under 10 seconds. But while Berry did sound tipsy afterward when discussing her character in the film with Access Hollywood, Jezebel says it’s doubtful she actually downed that much booze.

Here are four reasons why:

That’s SO much whiskey. Drinking that much whiskey that quickly could potentially raise a person’s BAC to .25, which is enough to cause someone to lose consciousness.

She doesn’t act like someone who is drinking whiskey. When you drink straight alcohol, you should REACT to it: Squint. Shudder. Purse your lips together! Make a raisin face!! Feel the BURN of the alcohol! Berry does not do this. Instead, she reacts like someone who’s drinking iced tea.

Whether or not the bottle was sealed is unclear. There’s a cork in the bottle, but whether or not it was sealed before the stunt was pulled is impossible to tell from the available footage.

One of the actors calls it out as fake before any whiskey is poured. “I wish it was real,” Pedro Pascal says when the “whiskey” is revealed. Jeff Bridges reassures him that it is. But who’s telling the truth here?
