The Sporting News has ranked Canada’s 21 major sports franchises (that’s 9 CFL teams, 7 NBA teams, 3 MLS teams and 1 each from the MLB and NBA) and it’s causing a bit of controversy with a very Toronto-centric top 10. Toronto FC may have some of the loudest fans in the country but their ranking at #1 is slightly curious. A top 10 showing for the Winnipeg Jets and Ottawa Redblacks is deserved as those two teams come from cities who battled hard to re-gain their franchises. And low entries are certainly deserved for the Ottawa Senators- who couldn’t even sell out a playoff game last season and the Toronto Argonauts as most Torontonians will probably say “we have a CFL team?” when asked.

Some questions certainly remain to be asked. I mean Jurassic Park sure looks like a lot of fun but where were Raptors fans when the team sucked in the 90’s. Maybe I’m just biased but the Edmonton Oilers boasted one of the longest sell-out streaks in the entire NHL even when they were regularly in the bottom of the standings. For them to not even crack the top ten is insulting.

Anyways, check out the full list and debate away!
